Randall & Quilter Investment Holdings (LON:RQIH) is a company that is often dismissed by investors as too difficult to understand. The company describes its activities thus:
specialist non-life insurance investor, service provider and underwriting manager
my understanding has always been that one of its biggest activities is 'run-off' i.e. being paid to take on an old insurance book and assuming the risk of having to pay out against claims.
The company has done this rather well over the years, making large payments to shareholders on a regular basis.
a Special Dividend of 3.4 pence will be declared on the S Shares, and both the R Shares and S Shares will be cancelled pursuant to the Reduction of Capital; the holders of the R Shares will be paid 3.4 pence per R Share
If income is important to you in your AIM investments, you could do worse than spend a few minutes familiarising yourself with the business.

Improvement in growth was seen across all regions during Q2 with the UK up 50%, the Rest of Europe up 61% CER (50% reported) and the Rest of the World up 8% CER (0% reported).

After seeing today's figures I believe that the shares might be worth a bit more than I did back then.
