With the news that one of its aeroplanes plus 240 plus passengers and crew from 32 different nationalities has gone missingm how will this affect consumer confidence?

After all, non-one wants to get on an Airbus if there is a chance it can simply and rather precipitously drop out of the sky.

Clearly they need to find the black box to ascertain what hapened, but this may take a while.

If it takes a long time will the natural "it always happen to someone else" feeling offset the nervousness, or will passenger numbers fall off?

If so, whither airlines? After all they're already struggling.
