Whilst the talk in town is on how low the oil price can go, opportunists are sharpening their pencils. The question is, which oil companies will prosper and which one will feel the heat even more?

For the August 2015 “>20%” monthly oil stock competitions, which oil stocks will have the greatest move for

(i) >20% gain?
(ii) >20% loss?

You may enter two stocks, one for (i) and one for (ii). More than one person may enter the same stock. The deadline for the August competition is midnight on Sunday 2 August. Results will be posted on this thread asap after the month end.

...erm....

SOCO International (LON:SIA) have their interims on 5th August. I'm expecting them to indicate an upgrade to forecast output and perhaps to flag some other upcoming metrics for the business. I don't think +20% is too big an ask if sentiment turns towards the stock and, ideally, the sector.

I have a feeling it may be quite a good month for E&Ps generally (which would make a very welcome change!)

Indeed, seconded viz the stuck record.

Seemingly rumours of a placing(another one) at GKP whilst it still waits for back pay.

Off 10% or so today alone - one of the few Oilers on my list that is down today

So: GKP for the 20% up.

Down: Little to choose from given the sector has taken a massive bashing already.
Seplat for me.

FOGL >20% Up. Humpback exploration well result due in August. 65 day well spudded on 13 June.
MXO >20% Down. Long shot of winning any licensing bid in Mexico???

UP : SIA on the hope of news of progress on at least one of the two fronts.

DOWN : GKP disintegrating trust between the Turks & Kurds closes the export route

Black Monday on 24 August already seems to be a distant memory! If the Up competition is anything to go by, lots of oil stocks have come up after Black Monday in the subsequent days. Signs are looking good for the oil price in September as the oil price is going up by ca.6% today (Monday).

Congrats to Impvesta and Thelagerkhan for winning the >20% Up Competition with AEX and SOU, respectively. Both stocks went up a respectable 13.6% in a volatile August!

As for the >20% Down Competition, congrats to Mach100 for winning it with TRIN which went down a worrying 33% in August!
