Headline shares are tipped to open fifty to fifty-five points higher today, accoring to financial websites, taking heart from strong gains in New York overnight and across Asian bourses this morning. In the US last night, the Dow jumped 275 points to 10,018, the Nasdaq Composite added 66 points at 2,159 and the S&P500 gained 32 points at 1,060. In Asia today, the Nikkkei was last up 237.91 points at 9,517.56, while the Hang Seng ended the morning ahead 291.29 points at 20,148.36. Crude oil traded at $74.85 a barrel on Nymex while gold settled at $1,204 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

The results of the latest deliberations of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee will be announced at 12 noon.

In the corporate diary for the day second-quarter results are due from Sandvine Corp (LON:SAND) Corporation and final numbers are listed from Begbies Traynor Group (LON:BEG). Trading statements are expected from Associated British Foods (LON:ABF), Firstgroup (LON:FGP), Hays (LON:HAS) and Man Group (LON:EMG).

Elsewhere, AGMs are being hosted by Albany Inv Trust, Condor Resources (LON:CNR), FirstGroup, Framlington Aim Vct (LON:FAME), Great Portland Estates Plc (LON:GPOR), JP Morgan European Fledgling Inv Trust, London & Stamford (LON:LSP) Property, Man Group, Maven Income and Growth VCT ,ORA Capital and Robert Wiseman Dairies Plc (LON:RWD).
