For the October 2015 “>20%” monthly oil stock competitions, which oil stocks will have the greatest move for

(i) >20% gain?
(ii) >20% loss?

You may enter two stocks, one for (i) and one for (ii). More than one person may enter the same stock. The deadline for the October competition is midnight on Wednesday 30 September. Results will be posted on this thread asap after the month end.

>20% Up: 88 Energy. Exploration drilling in onshore Alaska for unconventional oil is expected to commence soon, possibly in October or November, judging by the sound of it. cash rebates/ tax credits on exploration 85% in CY15, 75% 1H16, 35% thereafter.

20% up: GKP. CPR imminent! Which one hopes, will have a more realistic P2.
Additionally October "MNR" payment due first 7-10days

20% down: Serica. Risen 70% odd today on interims so presumably some decent profit taking to be expected.

Amazing gain by PANR! 166% up! in October. Didn't think such a rise is possible when oil price is still under pressured. Congrats to Aviemore2 and Sentothegallows for winning the >20% Up competition for October!

FOGL threw the dice and lost with Humpback sunk to the bottom of the deep. Congrats to Oilexec for winning the >20% Down competition!

Its that time of year again......

...I shall have to go for SOCO International (LON:SIA) for the "up". I suspect that things may be going rather better than the market thinks and that the FDP on TGT may spark some action.

I also think that eventually the penny will drop with the institutions that (irrespective of their medium-term view on the oil price) things could happen here in the next 3-6 months and there is little downside to being at least equal weight.

In general I think the December OPEC meeting could prove pivotal for sentiment.

There will also be downs, I think - mainly for companies whose business model no longer works at current oil prices and so losses are looming.
