I thought it might be interesting to invite fellow stockopedes to tell each other about their real life portfolios. Such disclosures should as a minimum list the companies held. Preferably the relative weightings also. But nothing so vulgar as absolute values, please.
If you have time to explain your reasons for making individual stock selections that would be very much appreciated, but you shouldn't hold back just because you don't have time to include that level of detail. You can always add in detail and texture later.......
Nice idea for a thread, tournesol, I hope it proves thought-provoking and generates plenty of ideas.
Anyway, this has taken a bit longer than I imagined it might, but a useful exercise nonetheless.
As for others above, I present my holdings as one portfolio, though in reality the names are split between ISA, SIPP, unsheltered a/c and spreadbet a/c. I’ve left out property and other pensions I have invested in funds (in reality these other pensions are worth about the same as the list below, but that review is for another day).
In summary then, my total equity portfolio is split as follows:
Stocks | Cash | Total | # stocks
Unsheltered a/c | 24.0% | 28.3% | 52.3% | 12 |
ISA | 9.7% | 0.1% | 9.8% | 5 |
SIPP | 22.4% | 0.0% | 22.4% | 20 |
Spreadbets | 15.5% | 15.5% | 5
71.6% | 28.4% | 100.0% |
The only stocks which are held in more than one pot are Encore Oil (LON:EO.) , SOCO International (LON:SIA) & Tullow Oil (LON:TLW).
And in contrast to the quite concentrated portfolios that have gone before, these 39 (thirty nine!) stocks provide me with the following %age exposures:
6.4% | Encore Oil (LON:EO.) |
5.5% | LO-Q (LON:LOQ) |
5.2% | Kalahari Minerals (LON:KAH) |
3.1% | Cape (LON:CIU) |
3.1% | Tullow Oil (LON:TLW) |
3.1% | Titan Europe (LON:TSW) |
2.7% | The Real Good Food (LON:RGD) |
2.4% | SOCO International (LON:SIA) |
2.3% | Volex (LON:VLX) |
2.1% | Ocean Wilsons (LON:OCN) |
2.0% | Plastics Capital (LON:PLA) |
1.9% | Castings (LON:CGS) |
1.9% | Telecom Plus (LON:TEP) |
1.9% | 21st Century Technology (LON:C21) |
1.9% | Rit Capital Partners (LON:RCP) |
1.8% | Volvere (LON:VLE) |
1.4% | Baker Steel Resources Trust (BSRT) |
1.3% | Vallar (LON:VAA) (now Bumi Resources) |
1.2% | Geiger Counter Fund (GCL) |

1.0% | International Greetings (LON:IGR) |
1.0% | Carclo (LON:CAR) |
1.0% | Wood Group (LON:WG.) |
0.8% | Avanti Communications (LON:AVN) |
0.8% | Intercede (LON:IGP) |
0.7% | Bankers Petroleum (LON:BNK) |
0.5% | Dominion Petroleum (LON:DPL) |
0.3% | Baker Steel Resources Trust Sub Shares (BSRW) |
28.4% | CASH |
I also have a small short on Carpetright (LON:CPR), with exposure of 1.4% of the above total (profit = 0.3%).
There's also cash held on margin against the s/b positions though I haven't included it in the cash balance above. Gearing against shares I can access (i.e. not the SIPP) is 25% which I should address (i.e. reduce) sooner rather than later with the Eurozone debt issues.
Quite possibly you might conclude that I am too diversified (certainly against other posters above) though I am content with the mix as it stands. However, I will rationalise the list over time and utilise the cash in topping up existing holdings that I believe should be conviction holdings. The cash is also available on the sidelines for opportunities as they may arise - though this is viewed in the same manner by MrsSM!
Any and all comments welcome.
