At DJP's suggestion, here's the beginnings of a header on Preference Shares:
Nowt wrong with AV's prefs (incl the old GAFLAC prefs) if you want low risk, high income. Mind you, the yield isn't that much better than the ords now - though massively more secure. Lots of other prefs around as well. These have been exceptionally well covered over on TMF banking board but could do with a thread on Fixed interest over here with links to the resource sites set up by OBR and MrC as well as Collins Stewart's fixed interest lists... Whilst prefs/bonds/ECNs may not offer such great cap growth, the lower risk income is very attractive to some.

That's a starter at least. I couldn't find the MrC resource site referred to above? If anyone has any suggestions for other good resources / ideas in this area (including on other BB sites), post them below and I will happily add to the header.
