AIM listed mining group Red Rock Resources (LON:RRR) reported this morning that ASX listed Jupiter Mines (ASX:JMS), in which it holds a 25% stake, had requested a temporary trading halt. The move follows news that an aircraft carrying Geoffrey Wedlock, Jupiter’s non-executive chairman, has been reported missing in Cameroon. Jupiter said that as soon as further information was available from Cameroon it would make an appropriate statement detailing any necessary arrangements.

Mr Wedlock is understood to have been on board the plane with several other key management personnel of another ASX listed mining group, Sundance Resources (ASX:SDR), of which he is also chairman. Mr Wedlock was appointed as a director at Jupiter Mines in March 2009 and also holds non-executive positions at Gindalbie Metals and Gladiator Resources as well as Sundance.

According to Sundance, the chartered aircraft chartered was reported missing when it failed to reach its destination on Saturday 19 June 2010, while on a flight from Yaoundé in Cameroon to Yangadou in the Republic of Congo. A multi-national air and ground search effort is being co-ordinated by the Cameroon, Gabonese and Congolese authorities, with support from Australian, Canadian and US foreign officials. In total four fixed wing aircraft, seven helicopters, along with ground teams have been mobilised. The terrain in the search area is predominately undulating and hilly jungle with thick undergrowth at around 500 metres above sea level. There are also some discrete mountainous zones up to approximately 1,000 metres above sea level.
