Does anyone know where I can source data that shows companies that are actively operating a share buy back program? I want to add the criteria to a model I'm building but not sure where I can get hold of the info without looking at news on ever share!
Obviously not the source data you are looking for but ... Centrica and Intermediate Capital are both engaged in buy-backs right now.
If you're interested in long term trends (at the granularity of annual/interim reports) you may be able to infer (net) share buybacks from the movement of shares in issue, minus treasury shares if they don't cancel the shares diligently, which should be in any data source that has accounting data.
In addition to Stockopedia, I use ShareScope (Plus version) which has a News Archive you can filter with a code - N/BBK - for news about buybacks using the RNS & DJ news feed. It might not be perfect for you but I don't know of a simple list of active buyback shares of U.K. companies.
