Tanzania: BG Group gearing up for deepwater offshore drilling

Tanzania's first deepwater drilling operation is set to start shortly, according to a spokeswoman for BG Group,the BG spokeswoman confirmed that the Deepsea Stavanger rig has been mobilised by Ophir Energy for the first deepwater drilling campaign conducted in Tanzania.
In May of this year, BG Group received the written consent of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to farm into Blocks 1, 3 and 4 offshore southern Tanzania, which were owned solely by Ophir Energy. BG Group acquired 60% of Ophir’s interests in each of the offshore blocks by contributing 85% towards costs which include an initial work programme.

BG Group (LON:BG.) now reporting that they have found a working hydrocarbon system offshore Tanzania, with gas-bearing sands.

BG Group (60%) today announced that the Pweza-1 exploration well, located in Block 4 approximately 85 kilometres offshore southern Tanzania and in a water depth of 1 400 metres, has demonstrated the presence of a working hydrocarbon system after encountering gas-bearing sands.

In May 2010, BG Group received consent from the government of the United Republic of Tanzania to farm-in to interests held by Ophir Energy plc (as operator) offshore southern Tanzania in Blocks 1, 3 and 4 of the Mafia Deep Offshore Basin and northern portion of the Ruvuma Basin.

I see DPL has risen in sync since the announcement.

....unless the block concerned has some islands in it and begins with N it seems ;-)

Probably not deepwater enough ......or too cheap to drill ......or summat ;-)

Strange to see Dominion and Solo strongly up when the Nyuni (and West SS) acreage is very much nearer to BG/Ophir's Block 4....and cheaper to drill, nearer to market and with a prospective TCF or so of its own......check the map here, remembering that Aminex's local subsidiary is called Ndovu Resources.

Ah but are we funded? Or is a placing taking place?

As I think I've already said, if there was a placing taking place, don't you think the largest shareholder would know? Would I have bought more today?

EE is quite right, and Was has made the same mistake over on TMF of forgetting about Nyuni Aminex Tanzania isn't just Ruvuma, or Kiliwani, or Songo Songo West.....or the US....

I carried out a few caculations several months ago which I concluded that Aminex will need cash at somepoint. My views remain unchanged.

As I think I've already said, if there was a placing taking place, don't you think the largest shareholder would know?

Possibly. But when there has been placings in the past you were quiet about it and did'nt tell anyone as your not suppose to.

Brian Hall is welcome to pick up the phone and ask me for some cash, I would'nt mind picking up discounted Aminex stock to dump in the market at a higher price.

Second Tanzanian well also discovers gas

BG Group today announced that its second Tanzanian exploration well, Chewa-1, has also discovered gas. The well, located in Block 4 approximately 80 kilometres offshore southern Tanzania in a water depth of around 1 300 metres, is some eight kilometres north-west of BG Group's Pweza-1 gas discovery announced in October*.

Chewa-1, operated by Ophir Energy plc (40%), is the second of a three-well initial work programme planned for Blocks 1, 3 and 4 offshore southern Tanzania. The initial work programme also includes the acquisition of 4 000 square kilometres of 3D seismic data. BG Group (60%) has the option to assume operatorship of all three Blocks upon completion of the initial work programme.

BG Group Chief Executive Frank Chapman said: "This is an encouraging start to our campaign in Tanzania. We have a large acreage position to explore and an extensive exploration programme will be needed to assess the full potential of this new play."

Somebody mentioned Pancontinental to me over a year ago since when its had quite a decent run.Given the free carry on the Mbawa well over the summer it might be worth keeping an eye on .
