Six months have passed since I posted in April on the performance of two sample portfolios; one a pretty standard NAPs portfolio based on a diversified portfolio of 25 high stock ranking UK shares; the second a motley crew of special situations based on a high octane mix of hope over experience. Since the original posting there has been the Brexit vote followed by a surprisingly upbeat performance in the UK market that has seen a new intra-day all time high in the FTSE and a fair bit of investor soul-searching wondering just how long the good times can continue to roll.
At the time of the original post, the NAPs portfolio had recovered slightly from the January shake out and was up by about 3% while the special situations portfolio appeared to be benefiting from an early stage mining and O&G sector renaissance such that it was up by about 26%. 

NAPs Portfolio:  Since April, I have been a bit lazy with the NAPs portfolio and let most of the original stock selections run, despite the stock rankings of several falling significantly. Of the changes made, Telford Homes (LON:TEF) were dropped due to a sharp fall in ranking and Hydro International (LON:HYD) was taken over in a cash bid. These were replaced by Styles and Wood (LON:STY) and Exillon Energy (LON:EXI) . I am currently in process of re-evaluating the portfolio and given four of the 25 are now below a Stock Rank of 70 and a further 9 are in the 80-90 Stock Rank category there will need to be an extensive re-jigging to bring the portfolio back into line. In addition, Journey (LON:JNY) is currently the subject of an agreed cash bid so is likely to drop out of the portfolio in the next few weeks. As of Friday’s close the portfolio was up by approximately 5% with 12 of the stocks rising and 13 falling.
