Biography

I'm a 30 something Engineer, working in the Oil and Gas industry. I'm married with 2 children and my investing aim is to grow my savings into a pot which could provide an income for me.

I am not relying on this to provide a pension, as I have a separate company administered pension.

Investment strategy

I am a private investor, mainly dealing in Small and Med Cap companies. I'm a small scale investor, my trades tend to be between £1000 and £1500 sizes.

My investment rules are essentially the Naked Trader rules. I tend to treat share tips (either NT's or anybody elses) as a pointer to a company to do my research on.

I buy my shares within an ISA account. My tactic is to buy anywhere between 10 and 20 companies.

I tend to struggle with market timing, so I tend not to worry too much about it and only buy on an upward trend, knowing I won't catch a low, but hopefully not catching a falling knife either ;)

i also tend tend to struggle identifying when to sell a share, I'm really good at sticking to a stop loss criteria (which tends to be a manual stop, not automated), but struggle about when to bank my gains!

Spread betting is something I am wary about as I don't fully understand the rules on this one yet, once I do and I properly understand the risk I may open an account (limited risk type) and trade, although I've been thinking about doing this for the last 5 years and still not done it, so I may never!!!!
