With some talk about recession at the moment I thinking of doing a portfolio of 20 shares and see how it performs. Any suggestions for shares to include would be welcome. My choices so far are: H & T (LON:HAT), National Grid (LON:NG.), Poundland (LON:PLND), Dee Valley (LON:DVWA), Fyffes (LON:FFY), McBride (LON:MCB), Novae (LON:NVA), Charles Taylor (LON:CTR), Fairpoint (LON:FRP), SkyePharma (LON:SKP), GlaxoSmithKline (LON:GSK), Begbies Traynor…

Anyone picked up any bargain shares in the sales? I have bought: Trakm8 Holdings (LON:TRAK), John Wood (LON:WG.) Next (LON:NXT)

I noticed at close on Friday 2 of the shares on my watchlist had closed well down. When I looked into the sp more I noticed there were both very similar, selling before close but then both had a large buy at 16.35pm, now this buy price was well below the selling price during the day. As it was a buy then the close price…

I'm considering investing in gold but not sure of the best way to do it. I don't want to have the actual gold in my possession. Can anyone advise the best ways to invest? I have come across Gold Bullion Securities which I may be able to hold in my ISA, anyone invested in them?

Just looked at 2 shares on Stockopedia. Confused about the Momentun rankings, first HICL shows momentum going up at 84, but 52w high is - 4.8%, 50d - 1.11%, 200d + 1.67%, 1 year + 7.5%. Second PAG down at 65, 52w high -4.6%, 50d +1.8%, 200d +11.7%, 1 year +7%.Struggling to see HICL momentum, if you look at the chart its going down, PAG…

Yes this has been going on all week. Some prices on my broker HL are incorrect, ie selling price higher than bid price, this is not just on small companies, Kier was one and it was about 100p difference. No trades during the day displayed. Seems to be caused by the LSE.

Ed, thanks for the figures, that is more in line with my view. However some low ranked speculative shares have performed pretty well such as Purplebricks (LON:PURP), £G4M and MySale (LON:MYSL). Of course we have been in a bull market since Brexit vote, I'm sure the results would be far different in a bear market.

"On the face of it we'd all be better steering clear of speculative/highly speculative shares altogether." Actually some speculative shares have done very well, for example Boohoo.Com (LON:BOO), £G4M, Best Of The Best (LON:BOTB), MySale (LON:MYSL),  Purplebricks (LON:PURP), all of which featured in Paul's BMUS portfolio, without those out it would not have done nearly so well. Maybe you should beware of speculative shares that…

£7DIG None of the music streamers make any money as far as I know. There is plenty of competition with the likes of Spotify, Deezer, Google, Amazon, Apple etc. There is already a hi-res streamer Tidal. Hi-res is a very niche market so I think the CEO is a dreamer, sounds pretty blue sky to me. Most people (even pros) can't hear the difference between…

Brown also sold over half our gold reserves off at rock bottom prices and wrecked pensions. Labour never leave any money left, overspend and then leave it for the next government to sort it out. If Labour had stayed in power then we would be going the same way as Greece.
