Dividend Dogs 10 Qualifying in UK

A dividend screen which envisages that an investor annually selects for investment the ten large cap stocks in the major market index whose dividend is the highest fraction of their price. This version uses the historic/actual yield.   Proponents of this strategy argue that blue chip companies do not alter their dividend to reflect trading conditions and, therefore, the dividend is a measure of the average worth of the company; the stock price, in contrast, fluctuates through the business cycle.  To learn more about this strategy please click here »

A US version of this strategy - The Dogs of the Dow - was popularized by Michael B. O'Higgins, in 1991 who proposed that an investor annually select for investment the ten Dow Jones Industrial Average stocks whose dividend is the highest fraction of their price. 

This screen is based on a UK dataset. It uses the following criteria:

  • Index Membership includes FTSE 100 Index, FTSEurofirst 300 Index, S&p 500 Index

Results are sorted by:

  • Yield % in descending order
