Tristel, the Suffolk based supplier of infection and contamination control products, announced that its Wipes System has been included on the Verbund fur Angewandte Hygiene (VAH) - the German Association for Applied Hygiene - list of approved disinfectants.

The VAH listing enables Tristel’s chlorine dioxide-based wipes for small flexible endoscopes to be sold to German public hospitals. The system already has users in Germany, but the VAH certification significantly expands the Wipes System’s sales potential in the largest hospital market in Europe. There are 2,100 hospitals in Germany versus around 600 in the UK.

The Wipes System has been recognised by the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Societies in the UK and Italy as a preferred disinfection technique and at December 2010 the Tristel Wipes System was used in two thirds of all acute hospitals in the UK.

In April’s trading update, Tristel attributed shortfalls in market expectations due to delays in receiving regulatory approvals in China and Germany. Recently Tristel has received a number of approvals – the license for the Stella system in China and approvals for the Wipes system in Australia and Hong Kong.
