I see that 58% of the community are buying and 33% are selling. Does this mean that a staggering 91% of the Stockopedia community are invested in this bizarre rollercoaster, or that, of those invested, 91% are active in the stock. I ask because it is the densest green/red indicator I have seen. If it is the latter, which I suspect, wouldn’t the former be more informative??

I (think) the buy/sell indicator is driven by subscribers’ Stocko portfolio holdings. I suspect a lot of these are phantom rather than real world positions (I have 10 portfolios on here but only three represent actual holdings) so maybe no surprise that some of the racier stocks such as Argo or Itm Power (LON:ITM) feature prominently. Interesting to watch from the sidelines even if the skin in the game is virtual.

These indicators on Stockopedia are very unreliable. Folios do not reflect real holdings, only 1 of my 10 folios is anything like my real holdings.

Most of my folios are watchlists.

I doubt it is in 90% of members folios either but something for Stockopedia to answer, I have asked them before but never got an answer.

I was in it, sold out this morning - actually got in only afew weeks ago over 200% up; essenntially like leveraged bitcoin investment; is very undervalued to US peers - Riot, Mara; would like to get in again if bitcoin continues to drop

The community activity panel only shows the data for users who have (or have had) an active holding of the security in the last 3 months. We define whether a holding is active by whether a transaction has been made for that security.

So that must be very inaccurate, as many of my real holdings, don’t have a transaction in the last 3 months and many I don’t hold do have a transaction in the last 3 months because I set up new folios at the year end.

I’m very surprised you are getting some very high community holdings for some shares.

As Chris noted previously, the Community Activity Widget represents those who are active in the stock, so the latter in your example.

If it is the latter, which I suspect, wouldn’t the former be more informative?

This is an interesting question. I believe that they are answering two different questions:

What is the most popular owned stock in the community?
In the community who own the stock, how are they actively trading it?

I certainly agree there is value to answering the former, however think this might be better addressed via a different medium, rather than within the activity widget. The current activity widget is a barometer of trading activity rather than ownership and the methodology is aligned with the director and institutional equivalents. In addition, trying to incorporate the most popular ownership aspect to the widget would result most of the bar being populated by ‘not owned’ for all stocks, which would make the activity signal far harder to recognise.

We do not currently have anywhere on the site that addresses aggregate community ownership but please do let me know here (or via the support button) if you have any feedback regarding the development of this feature.

How do you know what share is owned? You seem to be assuming that if a member has a share in their folio they own it?

I have 100s of shares in folios I don’t own, many have transactions as well, so I can compare their performance.

It could be interesting information but it needs to be accurate.

I’m one of the few who don’t have Argo Blockchain (LON:ARB) in a folio.

Personally, I would find it very useful to be able to see what the wider Stocko community actually own, irrespective of when it was purchased/sold in their real life portfolios. (I think this feature is available on the IG spread betting site although I have not had an account their for over 6 months). Presumably the raw data could be created if when subscribers create a portfolio they flag it as “real” or “phantom” - it would then be for the Stocko IT folk to figure out how best to collate and present the information. A real cash holding would, to my mind, suggest far more conviction in terms of a stock position.

The problem is because you can only have 10 folios, some of mine are a combination of real and phantom. Some recent deals I did not bother adding to my folios.

I was reading an article about ISA millionaires which there quite few now and their holdings.

By definition, the community activity will be based on transactions within the community. It is representative of the community activity within Stockopedia. To be clear, the calculation is based on transactions, not watchlists.

In your individual case, your transactions in Stockopedia may not accurately represent your true activity with your broker. This of course will be a limitation - we cannot see your broker notes to validate any transactions entered! However it is worth remembering that each individual is limited to one amalgamated ‘vote’ in the community activity.

Therefore, if the community in aggregate are using transactions to represent their activity (or intent of activity), then it remains a fair reflection of sentiment.

In you want your individual activity to be a better reflection of your broker transactions, then please add these transaction to your portfolio.

Thanks Oliver for your response, however I think you misunderstand how I use folios, all of mine do have transactions.

Probably around 80% of my transactions are shares I don't hold. I believe many others are setting up watchlists with transactions, this has been discussed before.

Because of the 10 folio limit, I have to delete folios to do new ones, at year end I deleted 3 and replaced them, so lots of new activity.

Yes - by 'watchlist' I mean a portfolio without transactions.

No. I would invite you to re-read my first comment for clarity on this. Below I have referenced the sub-section where this is answered, but reading the whole comment would give better context.

Think we are talking about different things here really. Folios, for me, are not just my holdings, I use them more as watchlists, I add transactions are that is more meaningful for me. For example I can set up a folio at 1/1/21 and put in transactions for each share, say £1k, then I can see how each one is performing and the overall performance, without a transaction you can't see without checking into each one individually. I can then compare them against each other. I see can the best performing shares in each folio, I can put them in order.

Only 2 out my 10 folios have real holdings but even those they are not all real, although some shares, will be included in other folios. We need more folios.
You also don't know if these holdings are long or short.

Looking on the new site, why does it not show which folios a share is in, on the old site this was a useful feature.

Each time I sell in my real life folio I make an equivalent purchase in my “sold” folio. This way I can check to see that I sold well because I can see how well the sold holdings would have performed if I had continued to hold them. So, presumably that screws up these activity figures. Oops!

like others on this thread I now have it in one of my watch list portfolios I did own it but after it jumping up 250% sold it also as others have done it’s actually holding up ok after capital raise as a small punt it’s worth a look if your into Bitcoin wether you love it or hate it Bitcoin will be with us a while yet anything connected to it is incredibly volatile though and I would be careful about shorting it as well as owning it

As a bit of fun with a 1-2% part of your portfolio it’s worth a look now it’s got mkt cap of nearly a £bn does make it harder to see it going up another 200% but who know

Definitely not one for widows or orphans long or short
