Nah, either they raise money from the Russians (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/3e19b2c0-a48e-11dd-8104-000077b07658.html) or the government will bail them out. The banking system is too intertwined for them to allow a major UK retail bank to fail...
er like... NRK, or RBS, or HBOS ? oh, bail outs don't count?
To be honest I don't see the difference between bankruptcy and a government bail out... someone else ends up with the assets at firesale prices... sure the shareholders aren't wiped out in the latter case, but the dilution and SP falls generally takes care of that anyway. Not much difference in my book... Barclays looks in better shape than the rest of them, but that's hardly saying much.
Ok, let's see who's right. I am calling the bottom for Barclays. I am buying 25k's worth in my Fund at 1.97. I reckon I will be considerably up in 6 months.
hahaha just wait for the derivatives deathstar to properly emerge from stage left...(cue the music)
current bailout program is the little dutch boy at the dyke...
I thought the derivatives deathstar had already emerged from stage left... isn't that the whole point of the credit crisis... CDOs, CMOs - they've done their damage.
