Just had a letter from Barclays saying that from early 2022, they'll buy and sell international assets on Smart Investor. I have an ISA with them, paying £4 per month and £6 per transaction for UK-only stocks. The transaction fees for international assets will be £6 for US exchanges and £9 for other exchanges. Then there are foreign exchange charges and some local taxes and levies.
I have an ISA with Barclays, but no letter has yet come in the post. No online letters either.
Thats great news about SI. A decade ago when I heavily traded energy stocks, 5/10 ten baggers were plentiful on AIM, but these stocks barely move these days. Hence, I'm itching to start researching and trading US stocks where there are the biggest returns. Those tech companies are too much of an opportunity cost to miss out on, especially the small caps.
However, the cost to add US stock coverage on here would make it more expensive than its nearest rival which includes all regions in its basic package. And as I've just started an annual subscription with Stockopedia, that could unfortunately force a difficult choice down the line unless US stock pricing here is more competitive.
That said, still loving Stockopedia, so may just stump up the extra dough in the end :)
