Breadth Indicators

Hello all,

I'm interested in using market and sector breadth indicators such as Highs/Lows, Advancers/Decliners, Above/Below MA lines. Stockopedia, along with other sources, reports on all of these daily but does not provide historic data. This makes it difficult to spot trends which are not reflected in the price charts. I am getting around this by recording this information in a private database which can be plotted into graphs

My question is, does anyone know if historic feeds with this information are available anywhere as I am unable to find any? There are a few end of day feeds available but none contain breadth indicators. I'm sure that Bloomberg Terminal, Eikon and other professional services would provide this but they are too costly for my budget. I am specifically looking only for UK indices and sectors (Refinitiv not NMX groups).

The only retail investor toolset that I know of that offers this type of data / indicators built in is Stockcharts.com - but supports the USA and Canadian markets with such indicators, and not the UK.

Perhaps the UK professional body for technical analysis may be offer to point you in the right direction for the UK?

It is possible that Sharescope could offer such stuff. If not directly then you used to be able to download historic price data from there in metastock/csv format. If you had such data, from whatever source, then I would suggest that Amibroker could be used to formulate and display much of what you appear to want. You would have to write macros to manipulate the raw data but it's not too difficult in Amibroker which has a pretty easy language. However, it is also possible that Sharepad could provide a more direct method of achieving at least some of the results. They are all a cost option I'm afraid.

Thanks for the tip Metatron, Barchart.com are offering a free trial at the moment so I'll give them a go.

I'm using SharePad now on a three month trial but haven't really found my way around yet. I think ShareScope is probably the more comprehensive option and I want to know more about the ShareScript lanuage mentioned in their blurb.

I hadn't come across Amibroker but the screenshots on the website look great. The language and code editor doesn't look too bad. I've found a plugin for UK markets but it supports IBC classification where Stockopedia use TRBC so there will be differences in the sectors. They also offer a trial so it's on my shortlist.

If I can download the historic FTSE data from Metastock in .csv then I can at the least fill some gaps in my private records so that alone would be a big help.

Thanks for all the ideas, they're much appreciated. Yes, all cost options of course and there is a limit to how much I will spend. The more I look at financial software, the more I appreciate Stockopedia and I'm not thinking of leaving. The fundamentals, news, forum and particularly SCVP reports alone are worth the sub and I really like the charts, my only gripe is the lack of a couple of indicators, historic breadth data and no sector charts, If only they'd provide these as an upgrade.

Yes, I've looked at StockCharts.com and it is excellent but as you say, not really for UK markets.

I had a look at the Society for Technical Analysts site and they seem to use Updata, so I may contact them for advice on which feeds they use although there main business seems to be selling diploma courses.
