British Sky Broadcasting plc operates the leading pay television broadcast service in the UK and Ireland, as well as providing broadband and telephony services. At 31 March 2008, there were over 8.888m Direct-to-Home subscribers to our television service, 1.4m broadband subscribers and 1.1m residential telephony customers. In addition to the third party channels available through the Sky platform, Sky also owns and operates over 25 channels with a portfolio spanning Entertainment, News, Movies and Sports channels such as Sky One, Sky News, Sky Arts, Sky Movies and Sky Sports. Sky also operates a High Definition TV service, currently consisting of 19 channels allowing viewers to experience the enhanced quality of high definition for a range of Sky owned and third party channels.
