I rate IG for their fast quotes and the low transaction fees (£3 per trade on UK markets, free for US supposedly too), AJBell sometimes get better prices but costs a little more per transaction at £4.95 if you are a frequent user (10 trades a month) or £9.95 if not. Quotes from AJBell are often very slow, and I've been disappointed with their limit order system getting "confused" when cancelling an order, plus taking what seems like ages to create the orders.
I use IG as my main broker. Also have a look at Trading212. Commission free trading with an ISA wrapper. Only downside is lack of securities outside of the FTSE350. Well worth it though if you're new to the game
IG are fine (I'm a shareholder after all) but they are more of a traders platform IMO and if that's what you want to do I would say they're very good. If you want to explore CFD's, spreadbetting etc they'd be a good home.
But....if you're inexperienced and you plan not to trade much, maybe buy and hold shares rather than frequent trading you might be better off with one of the more traditional brokers like Iweb / HL / II.
IMO their platforms are simpler to use and navigate, and better for a simple stockbroking service.
IG works well for me too for Shares and ISA with a very wide range of stocks and etf's available. Just avoid using any of the banks - higher fees and less available stocks
Hi am I right in thinking if you open a Sipp with IG they use James Haye as the trustee ?
