Buying Foreign Stocks

I can purchase some foreign stock through my HL account but they are limited and charge 1% FX fee both ways so I am considering opening an account with Charles Schwab Uk which being a $ account avoids the currency charges-- but I would be interested to hear from anyone who has experience of this or any other similar account.

Hi, I have an account with Interactive Brokers for USA stocks and options. It works very well for me. Also for my ISA , I chose IG Index as they charge 0.5% for currency exchange for my USA shares. Hope this helps.

I decide to go with Charles Schwab a couple of months ago. The customer service team were really helpful setting up my account and the street smart edge platform has lots of cool features like being able to set a stop loss (trailing stops are also available if that's your thing), brackets to set sell orders in percentages, price or points and pretty decent stock screeners too which you can customise.

If you decide to go with Schwab they might still be doing the following cash award

Make a qualifying net deposit of cash or securities between $50,000 and $99,999 and you can earn a cash bonus of $200.
Make a qualifying net deposit of cash or securities between $100,000 and $249,999 and you can earn a cash bonus of $300.
Make a qualifying net deposit of cash or securities between $250,000 and $499,999 and you can earn a cash bonus of $600.
Make a qualifying net deposit of cash or securities between $500,000 and $999,999 and you can earn a cash bonus of $1,200.
Make a qualifying net deposit of cash or securities of $1,000,000 or more and you can earn a cash bonus of $2,500.

You can use Charles Schwab to convert you £/$ but I used a company called Global Reach that I found on the moneysavingexpert website and I qualified for a couple hundred quids worth of vouchers....Every little helps
