The stockreport says that the spread is 11 bps ie 0.11%. I can't see any reason for such a wide spread as you indicate. Have you tried doing a "dummy" trade? Ie ask for a market price as though you were going to go ahead with a trade. But you don't actually go through with the trade. Perhaps the actual trading spread is less than your broker is initially suggesting. Or perhaps your broker's approach is make profit as much as possible from a wide spread.
A spread of 5% is ridiculous.
Hargreaves Lansdown were quoting a spread of 91.8-92.2 (40 basis points) at close on Friday 21st. It might be worth checking other brokers.
Depends on time of day and volume, spreads are usually wider in early and late trading. Card Factory (LON:CARD) spread is not usually that wide, as others have indicated. You can normally buy and sell within the spread although sometimes you can't trade at all, finding that more frequently in the last year.
