Apparently OPEC has today foregone its' old philosophy of propping up the oil price and thrown down the gauntlet for the shale oil industry in the US. How would this duel pans out!?

For the December 2014 “>20%” monthly oil stock competitions, which oil stocks will have the greatest move for

(i) >20% gain?
(ii) >20% loss?

You may enter two stocks, one for (i) and one for (ii). More than one person may enter the same stock. The deadline for the December competition is midnight on Sunday 30 November. Results will be posted on this thread asap after the December month end.

Tough call this month given the carnage over the last few days particularly. Some great value out there, PMO (off 11% today), Ophr (off 8.5%) and Soco in bargain territory at sub 300p

For the UP: GKP (Still waiting for confirmation of payments

For the down: Bowleven.

Boring....

For the up, SOCO International (LON:SIA), on grounds of market reassessment consequent upon the outlook for reserves and production.

For the down it is a matter of working out whose balance sheet is going to come under the greatest pressure. My gut says Tullow Oil (LON:TLW) but there will doubtless be others amongst the smaller companies.

Up PMO: Weather the oil price storm with strong production.
Down Hawk: OPEC oil price decision last Thursday targeting US conventional and unconventional plays.

Just taken a quick look at the oil stocks KEA in New Zealand has come up with a massive +525% UP today, while generally most oil stocks are down of course with oil dropping again to around $65 a barrel. I will come back with the down in a moment. OK

3LEGS for going down -95.5% in a month. Any bottom fishers about? I hope nobody was holding that one,

It's been a while since AEX won the >20% monthly competition, helped by partial divestment the
Tanzanian government in December and the expectation of gas sales contract signing in early 2015.
Congrats to Ewn55 and Impvesta for winning the December Up competition with AEX up a very respectable
16% in a very tough oil market in general!!!

As for the >20% Down Competition, congrats to Stillwaiting for winning it with MSMN whose share
price, down 58%, the market might have expected better news than that reported on Contingent
Resources.

Not sure how relevent this is but I read an article earlier that there is a suspected Ebola outbreak in Iraq amongst ISIS fighters. Not confirmed but if true I can't imagine it could be contained there with the situation on the ground. I wonder what the effect the headline ' Ebole sweeping through the Middle East ' would do to the oil price.

It's been a while since AEX won the >20% monthly competition

All of 3 months! Since my prediction that it might begin to move soon turned into a 180% rise in Sept! Credit to Impvesta though who called it right both times.
