Company History
- Originally built, owned and operated by the Central Electricity Generating Board, Drax Power Station was constructed and commissioned in two stages. Stage one was completed in 1974, some 12 years later in 1986 stage two was completed. It is the newest and most efficient coal-fired power station in the UK.
- Drax Group underwent a financial restructuring in 2003 after its largest customer, TXU Europe, filed for administrative protection. The company was formerly owned by US generation firm AES.
- The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2005.
