Headline shares are tipped to open between 25 and 30 points higher, according to financial websites, after Asian markets this morning shrugged off early weakness to finish modestly higher. In the US last night, the Dow edged up 5 points at 10,298, the Nasdaq Composite slipped 8 points at 2,254 and the S&P 500 was 3 points lower at 1,092. In Asia today, the Nikkei was up 60.15 points at 9,983.85, while the Hang Seng ended the morning 10.41 points higher at 20,867.02. Crude oil traded at $76.37 a barrel on Nymex while gold settled at $1,238 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In the corporate diary for the day, final results are scheduled from ACM Shipping Group Plc, Dart Group Plc, DS Smith Plc, DSG International PLC, Micro Focus International Plc and Polar Capital Holdings. Interim results are due from Thb Group Plc while Go-ahead Group Plc and Petrofac Limited will issue trading statements.

Beacon Hill Resources Plc, Corac Group Plc, Equest Balkan Properties plc, Hansen Transmissions International NV, Harvey Nash Group Plc, Public Power Corporation S.A., Stratic Energy Corporation and Tiger Resource Finance Plc will host their AGMs/EGMs.
