Headline shares are tipped to open thirty-two to thirty-seven points higher today, according to financial websites, taking a lead from sharp gains on Wall Street last night and in Asia this morning. In the US last night, the Dow soared 285 points to 10,259, the Nasdaq climbed 82 points at 2,278 and the S&P500 jumped 35 points to 1,103. In Asia today, the Nikkei was last up 119.26 points at 9,758.98, while the Hang Seng ended the morning ahead 343.25 points at 19,774.62. Crude oil traded at $75.32 a barrel on Nymex while gold settled at $1,211 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In a thinner corporate diary than of late, interim results are scheduled from Standard Life Plc (LON:SL.) European Private Equity Trust and final results from Electrocomponents (LON:ECM) and Severn Trent (LON:SVT).
