Headline shares are tipped to open flat to slightly lower today, according to financial websites, as investors consolidate yesterday's gains, on a day bereft of corporate news. In the US last night, the Dow added 6 points at 10,255, the Nasdaq gained 22 points at 2,303 and the S&P500 rose 4 points at 1,103. In Asia today, the Nikkei was last down 17.16 points at 9,897.03, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 60.23 points at 19,726.48. Crude oil traded at $74.32 a barrel on Nymex with gold settling at $1,205 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In a sparse corporate diary for the day, final results are due from model-maker Hornby Plc (LON:HRN).
