Headline shares are tipped to open forty-three to forty-seven points lower, according to financial websites, taking a lead from a late sell-off in New York last night and weakness across Asian bourses today. In the US last night, the Dow lost 5 points at 10,139, the Nasdaq Composite fell 3 points at 2,221 and the S&P500 dropped 2 points at 1,075. In Asia today, the Nikkei was last down 82.02 points at 9,611.92, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 222.37 points at 20,504.31. Crude oil traded at $78.23 a barrel on Nymex while gold settled at $1,239 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

UK money supply and mortgage lending data is due for release at 9:30am.

In the corporate diary for the day, interim results are due from Porvair Plc (LON:PRV), Pursuit Dynamics (LON:PDX), Terrace Hill Group (LON:THG) and Travelzest (LON:TVZ). Final results are scheduled from Assura Group Ltd (LON:AGR) Group, Carpetright (LON:CPR), E-Therapeutics (LON:ETX) James Latham, Plastics Capital (LON:PLA), Private and Commercial and Reneuron Group (LON:RENE). Meanwhile, trading statements are expected from Admiral Group (LON:ADM), Arriva (LON:ARI), National Express Group (LON:NEX) and Serco Group (LON:SRP).
