Headline shares are tipped to open sixty-five to seventy-two points lower today, according to financial websites, as global markets continue to suffer heavy losses in the wake of a manufacturing slowdown in China. In the US last night, the Dow lost 96 points at 9,774, the Nasdaq Composite fell 26 points at 2,109 and the S&P500 dropped 11 points at 1,031. In Asia today, the Nikkei was last down 198.96 points at 9,183.68, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 119.91 points at 20,128.99. Crude oil traded at $74.79 a barrel on Nymex while gold settled at $1,241 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In the corporate diary for the day, final results are due from Cyril Sweett Group Plc (LON:CSG), Geong International (LON:GNG) and Greene King (LON:GNK).  Trading statements are expected from Debenhams Plc (LON:DEB) and John Wood Group (LON:WG.).
