European Nickel’s principal activity is the identification, acquisition, development and exploitation of nickel laterite deposits, primarily in Turkey and the Balkan Region. The focus of the Company’s activities is on the development of a heap leach operation at Çaldag in Turkey.
With over 1 million tonnes of nickel resources and assets spanning Turkey, the Philippines and Albania, European Nickel is targeting 50,000 tonnes of annual nickel production within five years.

The focus of the Company’s activities is on the development of a heap leach operation at Çaldag in Turkey where it has identified an opportunity to produce nickel at substantially lower cost than most other producers, using its proprietary technology. A feasibility study was completed in 2006,the equity portion of the financing was raised later in the year and construction of the infrastructure leading to the minesite started in September 2006.

The Çaldag mine, located in western Turkey, is European Nickel's first mine and is designed to produce 20,000tpa of nickel and 1,200tpa of cobalt in a mixed hydroxide product that will be sold to BHP Billiton for processing into nickel and cobalt metal.[1]
