For the February 2011 “>20%” monthly oil stock competitions, which oil stocks will have the greatest move for

(i) >20% gain?
(ii) >20% loss?

You may enter two stocks, one for (i) and one for (ii). More than one person may enter the same stock. The deadline for the February competition is midnight on Monday 31 January 2011.

Hi FB.

Think I'll try CAZA for the 20% up in Feb just to break the monotony of my AEX picks. (Patience of a St. Valentine for the latter!)

158#1 and 162#1 news hopefully and 158#2 may sneak in before month end.

well I am waiting to see what the markets do on Monday, because soe babies may be thrown out with the Middle Easter bathwater, but difficult to pick them now...

(But I will be very happy if Soco wins!)

Up VST:TSX Vast Exploration

A binary bet but the CoS and potential share price gain makes it the best of its class at the moment, imv. That's assuming the shortest month of the year is time enough for a result:-) No guarantees on that one I'm afraid.

Encore should do well on the back of another positive result at Catcher North, spudding of Burgman, a very exciting triple target and progress on Cladhan and possibly news of a farm down, and more, on one or two the other very juicy prospects in the portfolio. Although it is a challenge for investors not close to the story to view a share that has already gone up around 800% in not much more than a couple of quarters as good value, this is in fact the case, imv. Encore could offer similar sorts of returns over the next 18 months or more if the excellent run continues through the rest of Catcher, Cladhan, the new Catcher blocks, Tudor Rose, Buffalo, Spaniards and the rest. It should be an interesting time for holders.

Telling yourself that you've missed the boat on this one and indeed my other favourite could lead to missing out on some significant portfolio gains.

All IMHO, DYOR and stay lucky;-)

I'm with db here, a lot of potential volatility tomorrow so worth keeping the powder dry. As an example, PCI has been weaker than COP despite not being in a "revolting" country and yet being in big news territory.

Quite tempted by aex for the up though but looking at a few other names as well.

Only one way Aminex is going up and that is if i sell it :) Which I'm not planning on doing!

Tomorrow will be interesting with the Dow down heavily friday,and the turmoil in Middle Eastern markets over the weekend.Wonder how Asian markets will open........

Up: SIA on bid being announced (here's hoping) - with the director holdings - when it is announced that'll be it - done deal.

Down: PMG on the bubble bursting when they announce a deal.

I will go for the unloved SQZ for the up - they might squeak some news in February on the Indonesian strategic review.

Well I think I'll have a look at some of the Egypt play that have been tonked.

PCI seems to be unjustly down given the newsflow.
COP - RNS reiterating production continues and unnaffected by events.
SDX - Seadragon has been whallopped since Jan so thats tempting.

Toss up between PCI and SDX -

Up PCI

Down - PMG

PVR has stagnated a bit since its 50% jump last November but a market cap of £88M still seems to buy a lot of explo upside and current production (actually I see that the EV is quoted as £202M - so that perhaps explains it!)

UP - UEN - The problems of the past have been put to bed, the loan looks like it may be repaid back to UEN this qtr, good production, drilling news due any day and small market cap. If near term news is as expected, this is a possibility.

Down - HAWK - The company can not continue to draw down funds without decent/increasing production. Continued slide for the company over the month continuing into the year unless drilling suceeds which they haven't been able to do to date (despite what they made shareholders believe).
