Extending the "elephants don't gallop" analogy, Mr Williams points out that larger companies only typically grow at a small premium to the wider economy whereas stock-specific factors have more impact on smaller companies, favouring the active stock-picker.
"A large number of small caps have net cash on the balance sheet and if they have access to capital beyond that then these guys can raise capital when no one else can and can buy assets others can't - so they get disproportionate returns on their capital. That's why we can make obscene amounts of money," he says.

Buffy - no, I did not hear that. I intend to do a full write up in due course. There is much to report and it is a complicated situation, but I remain comfortable as a shareholder.

Yes Mark, we are all keen to hear a shareholders view, but it is clear that like other forms of R&D, money gets spent and a logical route has to be followed for months or years before there is (or is not) some breakthrough which then shows whether or not we have been wasting our time and money. (There are also the unexpected opportunities which are not predictable but which an astute management can convert to value if, as here, the finance is available). Viewed against that background and the fact that EO is (presumably) still buying back iof the price is right, AB will not have revealed his private hopes. Our main insurance is the fact that the directors also have a big shareholding, so fingers crossed and sit tight.
