Not sure of a correct title here but need a thread to collect news itmes and general market comment on supply of gas to markets, whether via pipeline, LNG, CNG or any other method.
I'll try add some links to sources of gas prices ..etc to thread title as well just to add some more interest.

Started investing in late 2004, focus is on Oil and Gas companies as I know then best. Have made some very good gains on reliables like TLW, SIA, DNX, BG but lost a bit too of foolish punts and on silly spreadbets. The modest absolute gains made in 2005/2006/2007 were all lost when I threw too much new cash into market early on 2008 and more again towards Aug 2008, thinking the correction wasn't going to affect the Oil sectror. How wrong I was. Also had a day job that kept me away from my spreadbets that all seemed to go against me simultaneously. In short I lost a pile in 2008, recovered nearly all in 2009 but still smarting. Still learning and also am beginning to diversify out of Oil into Mning. BTW check out http://www.justin.tv/skitzonutter for video streaming of Beavis/Butthead without the pop videos....it still cracks me up....though I am probably a little on the old side for it now I just can't seem to move on to "loftier" Radio 4 type humour. more »

Nigeria, Niger and Algeria have signed an agreement to build a multi-billion dollar pipeline to take Nigerian gas across the Sahara to the Mediterranean.
The giant project, which will cost an estimated $13bn (£8bn), aims to deliver up to 30 billion cubic metres of gas per year for the European market.
France's Total, Anglo-Dutch firm Shell, and Russia's Gazprom have all expressed an interest in investing in the scheme.
The pipeline will run for 2,580 miles (4,128km) through the three countries.
When this happens it will be great news for European Gas consumers....choice. Any also for monetising stranded African gas both at the beginning of pipeline and along its route. Wonder how much it will cost (per 100 km) though to transport gas from Nigeria to Europe. I can see the West African Gas Gathering Pipeline also having alternative markets other then forced to sell cheaply to local power plants. BTW, 30 bcm is approx 1 tcf/yr or 3 bcf/day (or 500,000 boepd) or 30 million therms/day ...etc. Its alot of gas but still a fraction of what we get from Russia.
It looks technically quite challenging to build, security will be fun and games to police as well.

Those of you with pipeline aspirations should read Jerome a Paris in his many forms, not least of which is as a poster on the Oil Drum. This one on how to get a pipeline built http://europe.theoildrum.com/node/2918 (the insert link button is not working apologies) should be required reading before anyone gets excited by transnational gas pipelines.
In the case of the trans-Saharan you should note that the very broke Gazprom and NNPC have joined force in a JV called Niggaz (I kid you not) which should slow the whole thing down by another decade at least.
And sure enough the rebels issue a warning..........

LOS ANGELES, July 7 -- Nigeria’s militant Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), reiterating its long-standing demands that international oil companies leave the oil-producing Niger Delta, has threatened to attack the planned Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project.
MEND “warns the investors to the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project that unless the Niger Delta root issues have been addressed and resolved, any money put into the project will go down the drain,” according to a MEND spokesman.
“We will ensure that it [the TSGP] faces the same fate other pipelines are facing today,” the spokesman said. He also warned “Agip, Total, Shell, and ExxonMobil to leave while there is still time because within the next 72 hr” the group may launch new attacks.
The MEND warnings came just days after Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria signed an agreement to start the process of constructing the $10 billion TSGP, which aims to transport as much as 30 billion cu m/year of gas to Europe.
The warnings also follow a decision announced last week by Russia’s OAO Gazprom of plans to invest in the TGSP through a 50-50 joint venture, called Nigaz, with state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corp.
Gazprom said Nigaz intends to explore for gas and to develop infrastructure for its development and transport—even including a section of pipeline that could form part of a proposed Trans-Sahara pipeline to export gas directly to Europe (OGJ Online, June 30, 2009).
While no date has yet been given for the start of work on the TSGP, which is expected to extend 4,000 km from Africa to Europe, the line’s first shipment of gas is scheduled for delivery in 2015.
