Pretty new to this investing malarky and not sure what I'm doing. Only started actively looking / researching in January and my portfolio is doing not too badly, trying to be a value investor mainly. One share in particular is doing pretty badly so I thought I'd try and research the share a bit more and decide whether or not I thought it was undervalued and I should double down, or I should let it ride...

Anyone have any thoughts on Genie Energy $GNE?

I have done some DCF modelling and thought they looked reasonably valued. It has high Quality and Value screens on Stockopedia and also appears in 4 Screens. Total Revenue has increased year on year, In addition I was trying to copy Warren Buffet who said to pick a company with an excellent leader and I saw  Howard Jonas founded the company and he was a billionaire through founding IDT, so I hoped he could grow Genie in the same way... 

I bought in at $6.5 a share on 26th March following a sustained drop after announcing losses of $12.5m due to the Texas storms. Can anyone tell me why they lost money due to this event? I thought it was the residents who were massively out of pocket, not the utility companies? Did they suffer storm damage, or were they unable to power residents and therefore suffered losses? Or what am I missing? I guess I should have really known all this before investing...  

Shares are currently $5.73 so was just wondered whether to average down, sell or hold. Nothing has really changed about the fundamentals of this company that make me think its worth $7.50+ a share but any input is greatly received.
