I use a Google Spreadsheet populated with prices from Google Finance - I'm aware of the limitations in the prices provided, but have been v happy with it as a free & flexible tool.

But, in the last week or so, the price feed has become erratic - has anyone else noticed this? And any thoughts as to why it may be?

It would be a real pain to have to either shift to another system, or to enter prices manually.....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.....

yes i've noticed the price to be not reflected accurately on google finance for the stock Taptica International ... not sure why!

I have all of my portfolios on Google Finance which has been fantastic up until a week ago and then, just like Andy, the price updates have stopped. I see that Google Finance is actually still a Beta - have Google walked away from it? Have googled for news on the service but cant find anything!

My google spreadsheet prices appear to match those on Digital Look Currently.

For countries whicn were not covered on Google spreadsheets, I import the data from Yahoo finance.

For example, the command below gets the price of Singapore Telecom, ticker Z74. Not as convenient as google, but possibly an alternative.

=ImportXML("https://www.google.com/finance?q=SGX:Z74", "//span[@class='pr']")

I would like to set the whole thing up using Excel instead, but am not sure how to do this. If this is possible, perhaps I should just get someone on Upwork to do the job.

I think it depends what stocks you hold - large, liquid, stocks have plenty of "A" trades going through, so the Google price will be reasonably accurate. My account has a v high proportion of small / AIM stocks - where all the trades are "O" trades and are simply not reported.

The fact theat the LSE website isn't able to report trades is scandalous - are they really fit & proper people? Which is the best regulator to hit??

I have problems too. I have noticed that several AIM shares have not been updated since 16th July 2017. (SEE ,SYM for example). The same value for 17th July is also the same on Yahoo. This completely upsets my spreadsheet calculations.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Today Google Finance is displaying any stocks which have only had off-order-book trades since Jun-16 as 0 (-100%).

It's been nearly four weeks and they do not even have a warning message that some of their prices might be incorrect.

This is perhaps a timely and valuable lesson on the implications of a service which is permanently in "beta".

I have reported the problems to Google including this most recent one. I had a "we will be in touch if we need to" response on both occasions I suggested to them that a statement on their main Finance page was the minimum they should do. Trying to be positive, I wonder if this latest change is a prelude to a proper fix - the prices showing were becoming wildly out of date.

The LSE is not covering itself with glory either - the absence of O trades from their pages is ridiculous for the exchange itself. I did at least get a response from them saying that they were working to fix this but suggesting a timescale of some weeks. They also told me that ADVFN and Money AM prices were accurate. It is a strange world when these two can report better than Google and the LSE.

Fortunately, Stockopedia folios are accurate so as a subscriber, I have constructed a folio of all the smaller companies in which I am interested prior to making a decision of how best to structure my information in the long term

Whilst my Google spreadsheet is a great way to track 6 stockbroker accounts on one page, the issues with unreliable data sources leads me to think I need a back up solution.
Has anyone managed to get Excel to automatically download stock data to populate a spreadsheet with latest stock prices, preferably also PE ratios, 52 week highs lows etc ?

A user on Motley Fool wrote an Excel spreadsheet years ago that can download stock prices (15 minutes delayed for UK exchanges), PE ratios and a whole raft of price and fundamental data. It's still available here: http://tmffinancialsoftware.we...

I tweaked it extensively to suit my own needs and it has served me well for years...but it gets data from Yahoo Finance, which now seems to be having the same data feed problems as everyone else. It has got a bit better in the last few days, but some prices of the lesser-traded stocks (Somero Enterprises Inc (LON:SOM) for example) are still clearly out of date.

I guess Yahoo are being no quicker than Google at fixing the problem.

As of this morning, Google Finance APPEARS to be picking up real time prices for virtually all my holdings - the only exception being Braime Holdings Ordinary BMTO, which I can live with!

I've seen Google Finance are stopping support for current portfolios. Does anyone have any recommendations about a good place to transfer it to?

One option is obviously Stockopedia! Having done this there seems to be a slight discrepancy between what my google finance portfolio value was and what Stockopedia says it is. The discrepancy seems to be about the size of my dividends. But I know Google sometimes was incorrect in its calculation for reasons I could never work out. Does anyone know if the Stockopedia portfolio function includes or does not include dividends? Presumably prices are not real-time for Stockopedia too?

They aren't entered automatically but can be entered manually. I have no idea if they are included in calculation of returns (I just enter them as a cash transaction at the portfolio level to reconcile my broker and stockopedia portfolio).

The other downside, is with enough history, reporting of portfolio returns on the analytics reverts to quarterly.

You can choose whether to have valuation based on bid or something else (I chose bid, rather than the new default, as that was more real to me). Prices are delayed, I believe.

Years ago I used Sharescope (subscription) which had very good portfolio functionality but switched to Google Finance, then Stocko. However, for me delayed prices are good enough when combined with limit/stop orders.

I use Google spreadsheets to give a total valuation across several trading accounts.
Recently, data from Singapore has not been working via google or yahoo.

The following site provided useful working alternatives to import WSJ, Bloomberg AND Share investor data.
