Can you afford to lose it all? If not, please don’t play the stock picking game yourself. It can be an extremely expensive learning curve. If you still want to have a go, then why not trying putting the majority of your sum, say 75%, with professional fund managers and use the remainder for your own ideas? The other thing to remember is that it is impossible to time the market and although prices have fallen they could continue to fall for a considerable time yet so don’t put all the money in at once spread it out over quite a long period of time.

Ticker SSAC, iShares MSCI ACWI UCITS ETF (Acc), might be a good start while you are learning more about investing. This is just an all world tracker (large and mid-cap companies). It's not the ideal solution long term but it's simple and not very high risk and can keep your money invested without large costs while you decide better what you want to do. I'm fairly sure the InvestEngine platform is the cheapest way to invest in ETFs (DIY account rather than managed account to keep costs down , can be an ISA if you want).
Depending on the amount you have to invest, if you haven't already done this, you may need to consider what tax efficient wrappers you are going to use. e.g. pension (SIPP), ISA and/or LISA.
Some solid advice earlier. In fact I use SSAC as a benchmark, and it's not easy to beat so could be a good option. An alternative might be JGGI, which would probably be the closest thing in an IT format if you prefer (I probably do). Watch out for record keeping and tax implications if you hold an ACC fund in an unsheltered account.
And finally, and I'm going to be a bit blunt here, your two choices are terrible ones for the inexperienced unless you really know what you're doing? I hope you haven't taken big positions. You might do great with them but I just don't think it's the most suitable way to start.
Hi Siobhan, is the £600 after trial for a Stockopedia account? if so is this because you have multiple world markets selected for your account?
You can subscribe to individual markets that you intend to invest in (like UK) and it’s much cheaper.. Don’t pay for something you won’t use.
Having said that, some good advice below about investing in an index ETF that tracks world markets so you are not stock picking and will still benefit from markets when they go up. This really can be the best way to start and provide a good core holding.
You also don’t really need a subscription to anything if you invest in such an ETF.
I would not normally recommend YouTube with the exception for a new investor probably being PensionCraft where the presenter really focuses on regular saving and index investing.
Costs mount up and could cancel any gains made, suggest taking a closer look if only a small inheritance is available for investment, it's not the same as having a constant flow of disposable income to invest.
Siobhan, being in retirement I am able and do spend a lot hours on stuff connected with Stockopedia. There is something you might want to take away from jonsmith68's comment of Wednesday in Discuss/ Boohoo - BOO - general discussion. The bit I find difficult is getting out of a Falling Star whilst still in profit, biting the bullet whilst in loss even harder.
