How to find stocks with flattened charts?

I need help - am looking for stocks where the chart is flat so that any surprise could bring it to life again with a nice spike - current examples would be

CHMA CUR

Thanks for any help (as I can't find the right parameters for this one to set up my screen).

It all looks a bit risky to me. How flat are these charts really? They could be falling knives. Perhaps you are looking for the wrong thing - should you be looking for spikes rather than flat charts? Alternatively, instead of looking for momentum from a stock with a flat chart you could just try setting up your own bargain search.

I appreciate your feedback but it looks I know what I am doing - In only enter these stock with Stop-Limit and shar StopLoss as well as fast profit trading

Problem is to setup Stockopedia the way that it delivers the lists with stocks so I save 60-90 min. a day - Regards

Seems a bit like value traps to me. Of course the surprise can spike down. Re CHMA that has been drifting down for years. Think you need to do more research before investing.

Hi Kai.

Not sure if this does it for you, but here is a quick and dirty stock screen filter for you to play around with.

It simply looks at the movement in a share price in the Stockopedia database over 1 and 3 months and 1 year and if it is less than +\- 2% over all three periods it returns the stock. For good measure I've also added a Beta of less than 0.5 and a minimum market cap of £20m. If you go into the screen you can change/include the variables to make the screen more or less sensitive.

Some of the stocks are slightly odd (e.g. Tightly held football clubs with very little share trading). AssetCo looks a bit more normal.

Gus has covered most of them, but you could also look at "% vs 52 week high", "% vs 52 week low" and the "% 50dMA/200dMA" ratios.

Hi Gus, what a great community here - never experoenced sth. like this. I took your Selector and modified it a little bit -> et voilà I am in wonderland. Buddy could I donate a case of beer to you? PayPal?

The only thing I am looking for and it MUST be there is a range selector so I could say "only show stocks where price is: 1 < Price < 7 for example

Really appreciate your care - but I am day intra-day-trading - to be honest I do not care about business modell, cash flow, persective in the market, .....

I trade patterns ONLY and very short short term - In & Out

Otherwise I would 100% agree to your concerns

In that case why trade in shares that are not moving, I would look for shares that do go up and down all the time? I think you rather missed my point, value traps are shares that look good value but rarely move up only sideways or down and you have to wait a long time before they move up.

From personal experience, it may benefit you looking into volume as well. Sometimes you can see a ramp up in volume which might indicate a breakout.

Sorry I don't have any screening for such shares, there maybe one on here I'm not sure. There are some charts under Tools - charts that maybe worth looking at.

Hi Kai - the two step conditional you are looking for might be there but I'm not sure where. I achieved the same thing using the "less than" and "greater than" inequality on the same ratio. Not very efficeient but it does the same thing (I think).

Frankly, Stockopedia is a bad choice for data to trade intra-day. Stockpedia is really all about filtering out the daily noise so that you can see the factors which provide long term returns - which it does extremely well.
