can anyone tell me why someone after 4.30 as auction. pays
16:53 - 13/07
Buy 50750 297.49p £150,975.16
...when before close buying was 291.20
LSE site marks the trade as “XOFF” which I think means that it was an OTC trade rather than made through the exchange and could have been a late report of a trade made earlier in the day (the price is within the reported day’s trading range). There was another 20,000 trade at 298.36p reported at the same time with the same categorisation.

Possibly an institutional buyer wanting to pick up a reasonably large line of stock buying directly from another institution bilaterally. Not sure I’d read too much into it.
