Is a Price alert based on other Criteria possible? 200 Day Moving Average

Hello Everyone

I want to be able to set a price alert which will alert me if a price of a particular share goes above its 200 Day Moving Average

Is this possible in Stockopedia or in ADVFN?

I want to use as a buy or sell indicator

Hi Investorjohn.

Assuming the stock you’re interested in is currently below it’s 200 day moving average, (I think) that if you set an alert for “%200d MA” at > 0 , this should alert you when a stock crosses above its 200 day moving average. Not one I’ve tried to use previously but according to the definitions it should work. Suggest you give it a go with a few stocks currently close to the 200 day MA and see if it does the job.

Here’s a quick screen to identify stocks that are close to, but just below, the 220d MA.

Thanks Gus... So do I have to run the screen to see that? When I go to the Set alerts button on a stock report I can just set an alert based on simple price...

If you click on the arrow to the right of last price, there's a long drop down menu that includes %200d MA as an option.

Hi InvestorJohn.

John Eustace has answered your question in his post, i.e. use the drop down menu in the alert function. My screener was just to give you an idea of a few “near, but just below” the %200d MA stocks to put into the alert function to make sure (a) that it works, and (b) that it does so in a timely enough fashion to be useful for your purposes.
