The FTSE 100 is tipped to open flat to slightly lower, according to financial websites, as investors unwind positions ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend, with an update from Barclays (LON:BARC) a focus. In the US last night, the Dow jumped 122 points at 11,167, the Nasdaq Composite climbed 40 points at 2,512 and the S&P 500 added 15 points at 1,207. In Asia today, the Nikkei was up 158.48 points at 11,083.27, while the Hang Seng ended the morning ahead 234.36 points at 21,013.28. Crude oil traded at $85.42 a barrel on Nymex. Gold settled at $1,173 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In the corporate diary today, interim results are due from Avacta Group Plc (LON:AVCT) and final numbers from Altitude Group (LON:ALT), Emblaze (LON:BLZ), Harvey Nash Group (LON:HVN), Heritage Oil (LON:HOIL), Integra Group and Photo-me International (LON:PHTM).

Trading statements are expected from Barclays (LON:BARC) Colt Telecom, FBD Holdings, Forth Ports (LON:FPT), Rentokil Initial (LON:RTO) and Wpp Group (LON:WPP).

Baillie Gifford Shin (LON:BGS), Barclays (LON:BARC), Bayer AG, Davis Service Group (LON:DVSG), Espirito Santo, FBD Holdings, Forth Ports (LON:FPT), Hutchison China Meditech (LON:HCM), Johnston Press (LON:JPR), London Mining (LON:LOND), Molins (LON:MLIN), Murray International (LON:MYI) Trust, Parkwood Holdings, Pearson (LON:PSON) and Westhouse Holdings (LON:WHL) host their AGMs.
