Meeting for Kent based investors

Meet up for Kent investors

I’m looking at doing an informal meet up for Kent based investors to get together with like minded people and chat about investments/bounce ideas and information. This will be a good chance to get to know some of our fellow posters. If all goes well then we can perhaps convene on a regular bi monthly/quarterly basis.

The initial venue for this will be based in Maidstone as this seems pretty central to Kent. I will book the Muggleton, a Weatherspoon pub for Wednesday 4th September, food is available to order if anyone wishes to eat. There is a day either side flexibility to this date if it means some people are unable to do the Wednesday.

Both Gromley and myself will be attending, please either message me or reply to this post if you are interested in joining us.

Will do Delta

Hope you and Tennis will be able to attend.

Just to add to the opening post, this is for all levels of skills. We all started as complete novices so for any newbies that wish to join in and gain some ideas please do come. Todays newbies are tomorrows experts.

I'd just like to echo kalkanite's sentiment that this meeting should be for everyone and anyone that wants to attend regardless of perceived 'skill' or 'experience'.

I suspect I do a pretty good job on these boards of passing myself off as a sophisticated investor ( whether or not that is actually is open for debate,) I certainly wouldn't though want anyone to feel intimidated by that in anyway.

In fact with that in mind I would gently challenge one point : "Todays newbies are tomorrows experts." Very true, of course, but equally I know there are investors out there who have been at this quite sometime who consider themselves to only be "bumbling along" and often quite happy with that - if you fit that description then this is very much for you too.

Based on responses here so far, I suspect the first meeting might be quite an intimate affair, but in some ways that is great, much better to get to know people and establish what if anything we want to get from future meetings.

I'm very much looking forwards to seeing a least a few of you there (and for those that read my posts, I absolutely promise not to launch into any unprompted diatribes about the spinning jenny!)

* Do note the word unprompted - if you choose to mention such I can take no responsibility for the consequences ;-)

Hello there,

I would be interested in meeting up in Maidstone on this day/time as well, as I am based close to Rochester.

Does the timeslot still stand?

Thanks, Will

Hello Kalkanite,

Many thanks for the message with the meetup details that you kindly sent last night. Those arrangements are fine with me.

I cannot work out how to reply or send you a direct message on the new site - hence this forum reply.

See you on the 4th.

Hi Kalkanite,

I'd hope to be able to make this event, if you'd mind sending me some details, that would be great.

Thanks,

Hi Ric

Glad you can make it. I have messaged you brief details. For those who might be thinking of going but can't commit just yet, the details are as follows-

Venue - The Muggleton Inn, 8-9 High Street, Maidstone, ME14 1HJ
Time - 7.15pm Wed 4th Sept.
Table booked for upstairs under the name of John. I will let bar staff know that we are having an investor meeting so that they can direct you to our table.

@Gromley - Can you suggest the best place for parking for those of us that are driving

I look forward to seeing you soon

John

Parking & Travel

The two best options for parking are probably :

Fremlin Walk - probably the easiest to find being well signposted from the A229. Parking is a flat rate £2 after 7pm. (I'm not sure about the rates before 7pm, but I think the flat rate only applies if you arrive after 7.) Pay on exit.

King Street - possibly marginally closer (On the old site of AMF bowling for those that have visited maidstone in the dim and distant past.)  £2 flat rate after 6:30pm (It says 4 hour max stay, but I don't think that applies after 6:30pm DYOR!) Pay and Display.

It is not impossible to find free on street parking not too far away, but probably too much of a hassle.

I think there may be disabled parking virtually right outside the Muggleton , but I'd have to double check that if anyone is interested.

On that subject I should add (should have thought about it before suggesting upstairs) there is no lift to the first floor - if that is an issue for anyone we could probably change to an area downstairs.

For anyone travelling by train, it is only a short walk from either Maidstone East or Maidstone West stations.

And if you are lucky enough to be on a bus route, many of the buses stop virtually outside the Muggleton otherwise the Bus Station at "the Mall" (fomerly the Chequers Centre) is only a short walk.

No clue about where to park your helicopter and I have no idea about the charges for mooring your yacht!

Hi Gromley,
I've been an active investor for over 20 years and must admit it can be a lonely existence!
I would love to meet up with fellow investors so please count me in.
Many thanks

Thanks Daniela, actually kalanite is doing all of the organising here (I just have the local knowledge on the transport etc.

Would be great to see you. I think all of the info you'll need is now on the thread, but if there is anything missing I'm sure Kalkanite will fill in the gaps.

I just wanted to go on record for public thanks to Kalkanite for organising this.

It was a pleasant evening discussing all things investing and I thoroughly enjoyed.

It was quite a small turnout, but no worse for than and from tiny acorns and all that.

If there is the appetite for it, we talked about possibly doing another one maybe in January, so if you weren't able to join us but might be interested in the future, please let us know.

Thank you Gromley

I very much enjoyed the company and chatting about investing. It turned out to be quite a broad discussion and had a a couple of good ideas to take away last night. January sounds good to me. Hopefully I will see everyone at the Mello event in November.

I might be up for it - I'm often in Kent mid-week although I couldn't make Weds this time.

Mini Mello......Just to let you all know that I am holding what used to be a Mello Monday in Beckenham in Kent this Wednesday with Norman Kenvyn CEO talking to us about the VFS exit news and a new early stage venture that he would like to tell us about. We also have a company called EVO looking for about £100k investment. .....Evo provides a smart digital solution for landlords, agencies and housing associations of all sizes to transform their rental property repairs and services. The platform has been developed from the ground up, and has been operational now for just under a year.

Their solution provides round-the-clock service delivered via simple technology with affordable service plans starting from just £14.95 a month (£9.95 a month B2B). Our plans range from fast, 24/7 emergency attendance to all-inclusive repair packages specifically designed for the rental sector. This could be a useful link with our investments in the wider property market. Do reply to this post if you would like to join us? David
