Mitchells & Butlers is the leading operator of managed pubs, owning and operating approximately 2,000 high quality pubs in prime locations nationwide. The group's predominantly freehold estate is biased towards large pubs in residential locations. With some 3% of the pubs in the UK, Mitchells & Butlers has 9% of industry sales, and average weekly take per pub of over three times the industry average. Same outlet like for like sales include all managed pubs that were trading for the two periods being compared. Approximately 95% of the estate is included in this measure. Uninvested like for like sales include only those managed pubs that have not received expansionary investment of more than T?30k in either year being compared. Approximately 85% of the estate is included in this measure.

 

Company History

Mitchells & Butlers was founded in 1898 by the merging of two Midland's based pub and brewery companies, and completed the acquisition of 239 pub restaurants from Whitbread in 1996. [1]

Mitchells & Butlers operates high street, residential and suburban pubs which suit a very broad range of customers and many different occasions, whether a group of friends enjoying a night out or a family looking to eat well in a comfortable, safe environment. Their pubs and bars are bright, spacious and welcoming, offering customers a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks, complemented by good value pub meals and a mix of live entertainment, music, sports coverage and quizzes.

Their local and town pubs include Ember Inns and Sizzling Pub Co.,  part of the fabric of the local communities in which they operate. On the high street, O'Neill's is famous for its ale, its use of traditional Irish produce and regular live music. Student favourite, Scream, provides good-value food and drink through its popular Yellow card loyalty scheme. We also operate a number of late-night music bars, including 70s themed Flares and 80s themed Reflex.

Mitchells & Butlers is also operates many  classic pubs, including Deacon Brodie’s in Edinburgh; the Philharmonic in Liverpool; and the White Horse, Parsons Green, in London. In London they operate a collection of pubs under the Nicholson’s badge, renowned for their ale trail.
