I am trying to find out the main difference between the two metrics above, NFA as reported on the Stockreport screen and NAV

I am trying to create either a screen, or add to my spreadsheet the value of the assets of a company compared to the current value of the company.

Where I can find this on Stockopedia, and can this be screened

I guess for my long term buy and hold portfolio, I would like to investigate in more detail, companies the have assets close to, or in excess of the company value

Any help, or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated

If such a company performed as you hope, then the NAV would soon be exceeded by the enterprise value and, by your rules, you would need to sell or accept weaker performance henceforth, living off dividends alone. For a long term buy and hold strategy you might be better off looking at returns on capital as the key measure. Although there’s nothing wrong with investigating NAV as well. You would recently have been able to buy Headlam or SCS, two companies with large asset bases, at discount prices. But that moment might have passed and I would only buy such companies at the cyclical bottom for a quick trade. Anywhere else along the cycle you are prone to capital losses.
