Nickel is an essential component for the batteries of electric cars. The price has risen from $11,000 to $18,000 a ton so far this year (63% gain). Following a pollution incident in Papua New Guinea the price rose sharply on Friday 30th August as it seems the world supply of nickel may be reduced.
