I am french small private investor and try to buy some small cap at lse .
In France it is easy to see order book status. At lse I don't undersand where i can see it. It would help me to understand liquidity and how much stocks I can buy for a given price

if you are buying illiquid small caps than you won't see anything in the order book as they are quote driven (i.e. you have to request for a quote to see if any market makers will have liquidity). otherwise you can put a limit order out to the market and see if somebody bites.
in terms of order book view - if you use a broker that offers level 2 access than you can see it. i am not aware of any free of charge service like that which is publicly accessible.
it's not relevant for small cap, but a lot of volume goes through dark pools anyway for liquid stocks so even L2 view won't tell the whole story
