What exactly is position in universe as appears in the stock report?
I clicked on it which often gives a description, but it just gave market cap.
I assumed it would roughly correspond with it's position in UK stocks by market cap (not exactly because of some aim stocks being of a size which would place them within the index) but it doesn't seem to work like that.
For example Hargreaves Lansdown (LON:HL.) is 100th in universe but 42nd in FTSE 100. Why the difference?

I believe the "position in universe" includes dual listed stocks whilst the FTSE 100 (and other official rankings) only include primary listings.
For example, Samsung Electronics Co (LON:SMSN) is 3rd in the UK universe but its dual listing means it isn't contained in the FTSE 100. This will explain why Hargreaves Lansdown (LON:HL.) is 100th.
