Headline shares are tipped to open flat to slightly lower today, according to financial websites, following a poor showing on Wall Street last night and weakness on Asian bourses this morning. In the US last night, the Dow rose 8 points at 11,125, the Nasdaq Composite added 4 points at 2,505 and the S&P500 fell a point to 1,206. In Asia today, the Nikkei was down 140.07 points at 10,949.98, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 145.67 points at 21,365.26. Crude oil traded at $83.26 a barrel on Nymex. Gold settled at $1,147 an ounce.
LONDON MARKETS
Public Sector Finances and Retail Sales data are due for release at 9:30am. In the corporate diary for the day, interim results are due from Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping, Punch Taverns (LON:PUB), Smiths News and Wh Smith Plc (LON:SMWH)
Final results are scheduled from Aseana Properties Ltd (LON:ASPL) Trust, Dexion Commodities and Stanelco (LON:SEO). Trading statements are expected from Anglo American (LON:AAL), Bluebay Asset Management (LON:BBAY), Filtrona (LON:FLTR), Haynes Publishing Group (LON:HYNS), Persimmon (LON:PSN) and Sports Direct International, and a production update will be issued by Lonmin (LON:LMI)
