Would it be possible for Stockpedia website managers to set up a Random choice screen? That is, one where stocks were included on the basis of a randomised choice, which was revised every n months? This could provide another comparator, in addition to various stock market indices. It is possible that random choice based portfolios could sometimes do better than index trackers or active managed funds, dispiriting as that might be. And their management costs would probably be quite low!
Hi Rick. This is rather reminiscent of the 'monkey with a pin' idea. I believe that a newspaper once set up a competition where they invited 'experts' in to try to beat a random idea generator - they didn't do too well !
I'm not sure that we'll be able to implement something like this in the short term, but we'll certainly have a think about it. We are considering spinning off our Fantasy Funds feature onto it's own website and something like this would be a very fun feature there. That's at least 6 months away though.
