Hi
Sorry - yet more hawking for advice from the novice!
Think I have a decent strategy, based on Stock Ranks plus some other quality and diversification criteria that I'm going to run with and see how it goes. Rather than just investing blindly in everything that qualifies for my screen, I would like to add a qualitative element to it and read some analysis on each business.
Are there any recommended sites/independent (and respected!) analysts? I've heard the name Richard Beddard, but are there any others?
Am a bit skeptical about analysts in general given how poor they are at predicting and how often they are conflicted by who they work for.
As ever, any insight very gratefully received!
Cheers
Hi Nujinho, I believe that there are tables published, detailing & ranking the performance of analysts, every year or on a periodic basis. I've never seen them though - maybe they are trade only?
Would love to know if anyone else has come across these, or has heard of them.
It would be fantastic to have a source for these, plus the inclusion of Newspaper tipsters (if you can call them that) e.g. Questor, Midas etc.
Regardless, my own view is that most (if not all) are not worth the salaries and bonuses they are paid; most fail to beat the index and are heavily influenced by their corporate departments who engage in other activities promoting the companies they are paid to analyse - so clearly a conflict of interest.
I do receive Charles Stanley comments and notes - mostly they re-hash publicly available figures and add some pithy narrative at the end supporting their recommendation. Most of which is utter rubbish because they don't understand what they're talking about.
The worst thing is when some schmuck at Goldman or Berenberg puts out a note and you see the shareprice knocked by 2-4% on a day. This, of course, creates an opportunity of those of us who don't believe what they have written.
As I've said before, the quality of much of the postings on this site are far better than what the analysts come out with!
